Investigation into Fatal Crash at 16900 Eastex Freeway

June 5, 2020 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 16900 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 8:50 p.m. on Thursday (June 4).  

The identity of the male victim, 44, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Warhol and Officer J. Best reported:  

The victim was driving a Ford Taurus northbound on the Eastex Freeway when he failed to stay in a single lane and struck a concrete barrier on the left side of the freeway.  As a result of the impact, the vehicle became airborne and then struck the concrete barrier a second time.  The victim was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicated the victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.  

The investigation is continuing.
