Investigation into Shooting Incident at 9585 Main Street

March 9, 2020 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man that occurred at 9585 Main Street about 7:45 p.m. last Friday (March 6).

The suspect, Lonell Junior Martel (b/m, 66), is charged with felon in possession of a weapon and tampering/fabricating evidence in the 209th State District Court.  A booking photo of Martel is attached to this news release.

The victim, Lionel Stanley, 36, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.  

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives Z. Brumley and M. Althaus reported:

Martel was a parking attendant for a bar at the above address.  Mr. Stanley became upset when Martel gave a parking space to another patron.  Stanley got out of his vehicle and began to argue with and, according to witnesses, threaten Martel.  At that time, Martel shot Stanley one time in the abdomen before fleeing in a vehicle. 

While fleeing, Martel threw the weapon to an unknown location along the 610 Loop (Interstate Highway 610).  He eventually returned to the shooting scene to surrender to officers.
