Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 7640 Clarewood Drive

December 10, 2021 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 7640 Clarewood Drive about 8:10 p.m. on Nov. 26.  

The suspect, Desmond Haynes (b/m, 28), is charged with murder and unlawfully carrying a weapon in the 209th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Shominick Gaston, 41.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives R. Watson and R. Waterwall reported:

Mr. Gaston was shot multiple times while in the parking lot of the convenience store at the above address.  He managed to drive a short distance down the street where he then became unconscious.  Paramedics were called and transported Gaston to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The unknown suspect(s) fled the scene in the above vehicle immediately after the shooting.

Further investigation and surveillance photos of the suspect vehicle (previously released on Nov 27), developed information that identified Haynes as the suspect in this case.  Haynes was arrested on Tuesday (December 7) and was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
