Investigation into Fatal Crash at 4400 South Loop East

December 13, 2021 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 4400 South Loop East (South Interstate Highway 610 East) about 5:25 p.m. last Friday (December 10).  

The identity of the male victim, 68, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer K. Stout reported:  

The victim was driving a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound on the freeway at the above address when he failed to stay in a single lane and struck the rear of a white Honda Pilot.  The female driver of the Honda exited her vehicle and saw the driver of the Chevrolet unconscious behind the wheel. 

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene, provided medical assistance and transported the victim to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.  

It is believed the victim suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.  

The investigation is continuing.
