UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 12800 Northborough Drive

September 20, 2021 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 12800 Northborough Drive that occurred about 11:15 a.m. on September 14.

The suspect, Elijah Malik Nnana Kaluanya (b/m, 25), is charged with murder in the 185th State District Court.  A booking photo of Kaluanya is attached to this news release.  

He is accused in the shooting of Demrick Thomas, 35.  

Surveillance photos of a female driver and the suspect vehicle were previously released.  The female driver has been identified, but is not charged in this incident.  

HPD Homicide Division Detectives  A Vinogradov and D. Crowder reported:  

HPD officers responded to a shooting at a gas station at the above address and found Mr. Thomas with multiple gunshot wounds.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Thomas to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  

A preliminary investigation indicated Thomas and the suspect, who was a passenger in the Mercedes, got into a verbal altercation prior to the shooting.  

Further investigation led to the identity of Kaluanya as the suspect in this case.  On September 15, Kaluanya was arrested on an unrelated misdemeanor charge and, on September 16, he was charged with murder in this incident.
