Suspect Charged, Wanted in Fatal Shooting at 7136 Clarewood Drive

February 17, 2022 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of a woman and two other men at 7136 Clarewood Drive about 7:55 a.m. on January 8.

The suspect, Jose A. Velazquez, 24, is charged with murder and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 208th State District Court.  A previous booking photo of Velazquez is attached to this news release.

Lenis Zelaya, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A female, 18, and two male victims, both 41 years of age, were transported to area hospitals in stable conditions.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Heaverlo and A. Dudley reported:

Officers responded to a report of a shooting outside a club at the above address and found multiple people had been shot.  Witnesses stated a disturbance had occurred in the parking lot and a male suspect opened fire, striking the victims.  The suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction.  

Further investigation led to the identification of Jose A. Velazquez as a suspect in this case.  He remains charged and wanted at this time.
