October 3, 2022 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 8909 Richmond Avenue about 2:40 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 1).
The suspect, Julio Lopez, 35, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 263rd State District Court. A booking photo of Lopez is attached to this news release.
The victim, Dennis Mejia, 35, was transported to an area hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening wounds.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives C. Brown and V. Habukiha reported:
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call in a business parking lot at the above address and were met by a security guard who had a suspect (Lopez) detained. Officers learned Lopez got into a physical altercation in the parking lot with Mr. Mejia that escalated when Lopez pulled a gun and shot Mejia at least twice. Paramedics were called and transported Mejia to a hospital.
Detectives questioned Lopez, who admitted to his role in the shooting. He was arrested and subsequently charged.
