2nd UPDATE: Fatal Shooting Investigation at 4700 Scott Street
May 2, 2023 - The fatal shooting of a man at 4700 Scott Street about 12 a.m. on April 24 will be referred to a Harris County grand jury after Houston police homicide detectives interviewed a male wanted for questioning in the incident.
On Monday (May 1), the male met with and provided a statement to detectives that is consistent with other witness accounts in the death of Charles Evans, 43.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Fregia & D. Higgs reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and found Mr. Evans suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him deceased.
A preliminary investigation revealed Evans and another male were involved in a physical confrontation on a METRO bus. Witnesses stated Evans punched the male multiple times. The incident then carried over after the two exited the bus. At that time, the male pulled a gun and fired shots at Evans, striking him. The male then fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.
On April 26, detectives released a surveillance video of the male and asked for the public's help in identifying him.
After questioning the male, 22, detectives consulted with the Harris County District Attorney's Office and determined the shooting would be referred to a grand jury.
