Investigation into Shooting Incident at 124 Palmyra Street

May 15, 2023 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a male suspect by an HPD officer at 124 Palmyra Street about 11:30 p.m. on Saturday (May 13).

The identity of the male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Officer C. Notvotny, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured.  He was sworn in as an officer in November 2022 and is assigned to the North Patrol Division.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant B. Smith and Detectives V. Lewis, R. Anderson and M. Estes reported:

Officers were dispatched to a disturbance call at the residence at the above address and were informed by a witness that a male with a knife had come by the home and demanded the witness and residents turn off their loud music.  While officers were speaking with the witness, the suspect returned to the home.  As officers approached the male suspect, they observed him with a knife in his hand.  Officers made several attempts to have the suspect drop the knife.  The suspect refused to drop the knife and continued to walk toward and close distance on an officer.  At that time, the officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect.  Officers then rendered aid to the male until paramedics arrived and transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
