October 24, 2023 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a man found at 3352 Old Spanish Trail about 9 a.m. on June 14, 2016.

The suspect, Anthony Franklin, 51, is charged with capital murder in the 488th State District Court. A booking photo of Franklin is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the death of Mark Anthony Thomas, 48.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Burrow and R. Watson reported:

Mr. Thomas was found deceased inside his vehicle in the rear parking lot of a club at the above address. Investigators believed foul play was involved.

An autopsy conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences ruled Thomas' death a homicide, caused by strangulation.

Further investigation developed Franklin as a suspect in the case. On Monday (Oct. 23), officers with the HPD Crime Reduction Unit arrested Franklin without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail.
