Victim Services Unit

The Mission of the Houston Police Department Victim Services Unit is to enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Houston by assisting victims and the families of the victims experiencing crime and trauma. Victim Advocates work closely with various social service providers and legal agencies within the City of Houston and Harris County and is familiar with a wide variety of resources available. Services provided include:

  • Criminal Justice Support
    • criminal Justice Support
    • referral to assigned detective
    • status of case information
    • arrest notification
  • Notification and assistance in filing for Crime Victims’ Compensation
  • Law enforcement U Visa certification for qualifying crimes
  • Information and referral to local social service providers
  • Assistance with evidence return
  • Personal Advocacy
  • Assistance in obtaining protective orders
  • Safety Planning
  • On-site crisis intervention and follow-up
  • Training to police officers, community groups and other agencies
  • Community awareness and presentations
