HPD Searching For Elderly Scam Suspect

Investigators with the Houston Police Department Major Offenders Division are asking for the public's help in locating one of two men wanted for scamming more than $50,000 in fake home and roof repairs from elderly victims.

From June through December 2004, Ricky Allen Daugherty (w/m- dob: 3-16-55) and Eldred Talmadge Colson (w/m- dob: 10-6-47) targeted elderly victims between the ages of 84 and 96-years old. Most of the victims lived in affluent neighborhoods such as Tanglewood, River Oaks and Memorial. All of the victims lived alone. So far only 7 victims have been identified and it's believed there maybe more victims who have yet to come forward. "Many times when elderly people are scammed out of large sums of money they won't tell anyone for fear of losing their independence", said HPD Major Offenders investigator Carol Calabro. "Family members become very protective and will take away the freedom that elderly people tend to enjoy, in order to keep them safe", added Calabro.

Investigators learned the identity of the suspects and issued a felony warrant on both. Eldred Colson was arrested at a bar in Conroe on December 7, 2004, however Ricky Daugherty remains at large. He is described as a white male, 6 feet, 3 inches tall weighing about 185 pounds. He has brown hair, hazel eyes and is clean shaven with a fair complexion.

Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Ricky Allen Daugherty is asked to contact the Houston Police Department Major Offenders Division at 713-308-3100 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Officer Mike Garrett of the Houston Police Department Major Offenders Division will conduct all media interviews at 12 p.m. in front of 61 Riesner. Officer Garrett will have a photo of Daugherty available.
