Incident at 9000 Chatwood

April 9, 2006 -- Charges are pending against a suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman at 9000 Chatwood about 9:55 p.m. on Saturday (Apr. 8).

The identity of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Roberts and G. Gonzales reported:

The victim and her husband were drinking in the kitchen of their residence when he reportedly picked up a handgun to put it away. The husband told investigators that he began twirling the pistol in his hands when it accidentally discharged, striking his wife in the chest. She was transported the Ben Taub General Hospital where she later died.

The investigation is continuing.
