Traffic Incident at 1200 Shepherd

December 21, 2006 --Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 1200 Shepherd at 4:15 a.m. today (Dec. 21).

The identity of the deceased male victim is pending notification to family members.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant S.G. Trahan and Officer S.E. Bolton reported:

The driver of an 18-wheeler stopped northbound on Shepherd to wait for a train to clear the tracks at approximately 2:51 a.m. when a white Chevrolet van struck him from behind. The driver of the van sustained minor injuries but the passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, hit the windshield. The driver and the passenger were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where the passenger was pronounced dead. According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the van stated that he had been drinking.

This case remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
