March 29, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of two men at 9475 West Sam Houston Parkway South about 12:15 p.m. on March 24.

The suspect is identified as Patrick Raynard Edwards (b/m, DOB 3-17-84). He is charged with capital murder in the 337th State District Court. Edwards is 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 140 to 145 pounds. He is believed to be driving in a white, four-door 1993 Buick, possibly a Century. One of the victims is identified as Jackie Robinson Jr., 23, of 11735 South Glen Drive. The identity of the other victim, 17, is pending verification of the Harris County Medical Examiner's office. Both victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B.E. Roberts and Officer J. Sosa reported:

According to witnesses, the victims were part of a small group of males arguing in the apartment complex's courtyard. The argument escalated and both victims were shot multiple times. The suspect (s) fled on foot.

Following the incident, officers with the HPD Community Relations Unit met with homicide investigators and some tenants at the apartment complex as part of the police department's Fear Reduction Initiative. Through those discussions, a possible suspect was identified. That suspect, Edwards, was later charged in the murders.

Investigators said the suspect and victims were from New Orleans and victims of Hurricane Katrina.
