Fatal Traffic Accident at 5400 Old Spanish Trail

October 27, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 5400 block of Old Spanish Trail about 3:10 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 25).

The name of the deceased male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Chambers and Officer A. Alaniz reported:

The victim was driving a Ford Explorer westbound on Old Spanish Trail (OST) when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a light pole. His vehicle stopped in the middle lanes of OST. When the victim got out of the vehicle and walked around to its front to survey the damage, his vehicle was struck by an International 4300 traveling west on OST. The victim tried to jump out of the way, but instead jumped into the path of the International. The driver of the International stated he did not see the victim's Explorer until it was too late, due to the darkness and that the Explorer had no lights on. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing. No charges have been filed at this time.
