HPD Mounted Patrol Saddles Up in More Comfort

August 5, 2009 - Members of the Houston Police Department Mounted Patrol Detail acknowledged a City of Houston council member for the purchase of mounted patrol equipment, including four new saddles, at the HPD Mounted Patrol Facility, 5005 Little York at an afternoon news conference today (Wednesday, Aug. 5).

Council member James Rodriguez, District I, graciously used funds from his own budget to purchase four new saddles and 22 neoprene breast collars.  The new saddles, received in July, replace the current worn and old ones that were causing some medical problems for the Mounted Patrol horses.  Total cost of the mounted patrol equipment was $4,988.  Photos of the event are attached top this news release.

“Today is a special day for Mounted Patrol,” said Lieutenant Randall Wallace.  “These new saddles not only improve the comfort of the horses,” he added, “but also provide a safer, more comfortable ride for the officers.  Without Council member Rodriguez’s support and assistance, we would not be able to complete our mission.”

Monetary donations on behalf of the HPD Mounted Patrol Detail can be made by contacting the Houston Police Foundation and designating the funds to Mounted Patrol.
