Suspect1

One suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his late teens to early 20s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and with a skinny build.

The second suspect is also a Hispanic male in his 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and with a chubby build.  Both were dressed in black clothing.  Composite sketches of both suspects are attached to this news release.

Suspect2

The victim, Jose Alvarenga, 40, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants E. Cisneros and Officer D. Vasquez reported:

Mr. Alvarenga and his family were asleep in their home when he was awakened by a loud noise downstairs.  Alvarenga went downstairs and found two suspects had kicked in the back door and were in the residence.  One suspect then ordered Alvarenga, at gunpoint, to the ground while the other suspect ran upstairs and ordered Alvarenga’s daughters to lie on the ground next to their father.  Both suspects then repeatedly demanded money from the family.  When Alvarenga failed to produce any money, he was shot.  Both suspects then fled the scene in an older model white van with a sliding door.
