Male Shoots Female, Then Self at 10201 Harwin

February 16, 2008 - Houston police are investigating an attempted murder / suicide at 10201 Harwin #201 about 1 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 15).

The deceased male suspect, Francisco Javier Diaz-Samaria (H/m, DOB: 10-13-82), critically wounded his common-law wife, Kenia Martinez, 30, and then fatally shot himself.  Ms. Martinez, who was pregnant, was last reported in critical, but stable condition at Ben Taub General Hospital with a gunshot wound to her neck.  Doctors performed an emergency Caesarean section and delivered Martinez’s baby girl in stable condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E.B. Cisneros and Senior Police Officer D.S. Vasquez reported:

Officers responded to a shooting in-progress call and found Ms. Martinez lying on the ground outside her apartment.  Paramedics arrived and transported her to the hospital in critical condition.

During the scene investigation, officers found Martinez’s common-law husband dead inside the apartment bedroom.  He suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.  Martinez’s children were inside the apartment when officers arrived, but they were not harmed.

The motive for the shootings appears to be related to a domestic dispute between the suspect and Martinez prior to the incident.
