Charges Filed in Fatal Shooting at 7800 Long Point

July 10, 2009 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man in the 7800 block of Long Point Drive about 1:45 a.m. today (July 10). 

The suspect, Jose Carlos Rodriguez (H/m, DOB: 9-7-85), is charged with murder in the 263rd State District Court. 

The deceased victim, 30, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. L. Meeler and Officer R. P. Houghton reported: 

The victim and a male friend got into a physical fight with Rodriguez and another male at a night club.  The victim and his friend then left the nightclub in a vehicle and both Rodriguez and the second male followed them.  At some point, Rodriguez fired several shots into the victim’s vehicle and struck him.  Patrol officers responded to the scene and took Rodriguez, who admitted to his role in the incident, into custody.  The pistol was recovered a short distance from the location.
