Suspect Arrested And Charged in Fatal Shooting at 700 Evanston

October 30, 2009 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a male found at 700 Evanston about 7:35 a.m. on Monday (Oct. 26).

The suspect, a juvenile, has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a charge of murder.

The victim, Rafael Leon, Jr., 16, of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W.P. Booth and Senior Police Officer A.D. Brown reported:

The victim, Mr. Leon, was discovered in a ditch in the 700 Block of Evanston the morning of October 26. A canvass of the area found that several residents heard a loud gunshot at approximately 9:30 p.m. on the previous day (Oct. 25).

Further investigation, with the assistance of Harris County Precinct 2 and Precinct 3 deputy constables, determined the suspect and Leon were friends and had gotten into an argument. The suspect then fatally shot Leon.
