Traffic Incident at 8900 Jensen Drive

April 29, 2005 -- A bicyclist is hit and killed as he pedaled along Jensen Drive on Thursday, April 28, 2005 around 10:04 p.m.

According to Mobility Incident Management Division Officer R.R. Schweiker, the unknown victim, a black male in his forties, was crossing Jensen Drive from east to west on his bicycle when an unknown vehicle struck him. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene. The driver, when found, could face a charge of failure to stop and render aid. Investigators are asking for any possible witnesses to this incident to contact the Houston Police Department Mobility Incident Management Division at 713-247-4072 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 6200 Beechnut Street

February 20, 2020 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a male that occurred at 6200 Beechnut Street about 8:55 p.m. on September 7, 2019.  

The suspect, Jonathan Soto (H/m, 25), is charged with murder in the 339th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Mauricio Ayala, 20.

HPD Homicide Division Officers K. Clark and J. Pickett reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call at the above intersection of Beechnut at Bissonnet Street.  Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Ayala with multiple gunshot wounds inside his vehicle.  Ayala was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Further investigation identified Soto as the suspect in this case.  Soto, who is in custody on an unrelated charge, was subsequently charged on February 13 for his role in the shooting.
