Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee

  • $3,000,000 for Revitalization of Cultural Assets in two Houston Complete Communities under Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Fund
    • Adaptive reuse and development of an abandoned public middle school campus in the Aldine Independent School District into the Bethune Empowerment Center, a workforce development facility that is a key capital improvement project within the Complete Communities initiative.
    • Upgrade the Talento Bilingüe de Houston (TBH) building to establish a cultural venue in the East End that can be consistently utilized for outreach, performances, and programming, and improve adjacent Guadalupe Plaza with an artist-designed outdoor stage and related essential amenities.

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher & Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee

  • $975,000 to the Houston Police Department Advocates for Violent Crime Victims under Department of Justice OJP-BYRNE grant program.  This funding is being used to support the employment of nine full-time crime victim advocates. These advocates help the department provide a trauma-informed response for victims of violent crimes by responding to critical incidents and other violent crime scenes when requested by officers.

Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher & Congressman Al Green

  • $906,584 to the Houston Fire Department facilities & equipment (Mobile Stroke Unit) under Department of Health & Human Services Health Resources and Service Administration program.  The funding will provide for one new Ambulance Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU) for the City of Houston Health Department. This unit will be part of the four new vehicles of the MSU fleet.
  • $450,000 for Houston Fire Department facilities & equipment (ETHAN).  During a four-year period, the Houston Fire Department’s ETHAN program has successfully serviced more than 22,000 City of Houston residents and visitors. An average of 15% of all ETHAN patients have been dispositioned or managed away from the emergency department resulting in significant savings in healthcare costs.

Congressman Al Green

  • $2,000,000 for the Bissonnet Social Services Hub. The Alief-Westwood neighborhood sought capital investments to deploy economic development strategies that can decrease poverty and human trafficking in the area. Targeted workforce development opportunities combined with a hub for wrap around social services will assist the community to attract new businesses and commercial assets that can create more jobs. The Bissonnet Social Services Hub is an opportunity to build an impactful and sustainable solution to a complex and entrenched set of community challenges.
  • $750,000 for the EmPowering Solar Jobs program to train and place 175 Houstonians from Sunnyside and other Complete Communities neighborhoods into solar and solar-related jobs.

Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia

  • $621,000 to The Houston Financial Empowerment Center under Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Fund.  The Houston Financial Empowerment Center (HFEC) provides one-on-one financial counseling for low-to-moderate (LMI) income households to help improve their credit scores, manage debt, build wealth, establish an emergency saving accounts, and reduce dependency on public benefits.
