Incident at 8503 Gulf Freeway

August 6, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 8503 Gulf Freeway today (Aug. 6) about 2:25 a.m.

The victim, Antonio Cortez, 19, of 10227 Elmhurst suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Booth and Officer T. W. Miller reported:

The victim and a friend left a local pool hall and got into the complainant's vehicle. As the two men began driving away, the suspect's vehicle, a silver Nissan Altima, pulled up alongside Cortez's vehicle and the suspect began shooting at them. Cortez was struck once in the head and died at the scene. There were an estimated 300 witnesses in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.

The suspect, who fled the scene, is described as a Hispanic male driving a silver Nissan Altima.
