Traffic Incident at 2600 South Loop West

August 11, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 2600 South Loop West about 2 a.m. today (August 11).

The male victim's identity is pending notification to next of kin by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. S. Runyan and Officer S. E. Bolton reported:

A wrecker driver, traveling westbound on the South Loop West service road, noticed the van he was towing was coming loose from the wrecker. The wrecker driver stopped in a moving lane of traffic to re-secure the van. A motorcycle rider traveling on the service road struck the rear of the van and was pronounced dead approximately one hour later.

The investigation is continuing.
