Update on Traffic Incident at Sageburrow and Hughes

August 22, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at Sageburrow and Hughes about 7:20 a.m. on August 18.

The victim has been identified as Ruth Young, 9, of 10014 Sageaspen Lane.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D. R. Hurd and Officer M. W. Gartman reported:

A Pasadena ISD school bus was stopped at the intersection of Sageburrow and Hughes. Ruth Young, riding a bicycle, attempted to cross Sageburrow in front of the bus. As the bus began to turn eastbound on Hughes, the girl was struck by the bus and killed.

The investigation is continuing. The Harris County District Attorney's office will review this case to determine if charges will be filed.
