Second Update on Incident at 4025 Eldridge Parkway

August 25, 2005 -- A suspect charged with capital murder in the fatal shooting of Akhil Chopra, 28, at 4025 Eldridge Parkway was arrested on Wednesday (Aug. 24).

The suspect, Howard Dale Bellamy, a.k.a."Peanut" (b/m, 7-13-83), has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the 228th State District Court.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Scott and Officer C. Scales reported:

Mr. Chopra was shot and killed during a robbery in the Joseph A. Fiorenza Park on August 11, 2005 while meditating or praying on his lunch break, which was his usual routine. There were no witnesses to the murder and the suspect was unknown until officers learned that Chopra's credit cards were being used to purchase gasoline after his murder. The arrest of the theft suspects enabled officers to identify Bellamy as the person who robbed and murdered Mr. Chopra.
