Incident at 61 Riesner

December 3, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating the death of an inmate that occurred at 61 Riesner on December 2, 2005 about 5:07 p.m.

The victim is identified as David Munoz, 20, of 611 Dairy Ashford #69. He suffered a neck injury.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant Wyers and Officer Tyler reported:

An officer assigned to the sixth floor of the City of Houston Central jail was doing a walk, checking inmate status. He found an inmate that had hanged himself. Attempts were made to resuscitate the inmate but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Munoz had been placed in an isolated cell at his own request. He had been arrested on Dec. 1, 2005 for aggravated robbery.

HPD Internal Affairs and Homicide Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office Civil Rights Division are investigating this incident.
