Traffic Incident on Beamer at Sam Houston Parkway

February 5, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on Beamer Road at the Sam Houston Parkway service road about 10:15 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 4).

The name of the deceased female has not been released pending notification of
family members.

HPD Traffic Division Sergeant D.S. Runyan and Officer D.J. Gutierrez reported:

Although witnesses gave conflicting statements, it appeared the driver of a
Nissan Maxima ran a red light southbound on Beamer at the Sam Houston Parkway
service road eastbound. The Maxima collided with a Chevrolet four-door
vehicle traveling east on the service road. Witnesses said the driver of the
Chevrolet might have been speeding.

Four people in the Nissan Maxima and one person from the Chevrolet were
transported to area hospitals. A female passenger in the Nissan was thrown
from the vehicle on impact. She was transported to a hospital where she was
pronounced dead.

The investigation is continuing.
