February 28, 2005 -- Houston police homicide investigators have arrested two suspects in the fatal shooting of a man in the 5100 block of Ireland about 7:30 p.m. on February 14.

Robert Lavan Benford (b/m, DOB 7-26-72) and Damien Jerome Dillard (b/m, DOB 9-21-84) are both charged with capital murder in the 248th State District Court. They are accused in the killing of Herrera Ramirez Porfirio, 29, of 5217 Ireland. Porfirio suffered several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.B. Douglas and Officer D.R. Shorten reported:

Porfirio and a witness were walking in the 5100 block of Ireland when they were approached by two unknown black males, one on a bicycle and the other on foot. According to the witness, the male on the bicycle blocked them in, and the shooter stood behind them. The witness stated he then ran from the scene. At that time, Porfirio was shot several times.

Investigators learned the identities on the suspects and took them into custody for questioning on February 24. Charges were filed against both suspects the following day.
