March 28, 2005 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman in the 5500 block of Bellaire Blvd. about 2:35 a.m. on Saturday (March 26).

The suspect, Carmelo Lagunas Diaz (H/m DOB: 10-03-71), has been charged with
murder in the 228th State District Court.

HPD Homicide Division Officers D. Vasquez and M. Sosa reported:

The victim, Iracema Del Carmen Segovia, 23, of 5500 El Camino De Rey #3405, along with Diaz and another female friend, was riding in a cab when an argument began between the suspect and the victim, who were sitting in the backseat. Diaz pulled out a handgun and shot the victim several times. After the shooting, Diaz fled on foot and was located approximately one mile away by HPD patrol officers. The suspect was brought back to the scene where witnesses positively identified him. The cab driver and the other passenger were not injured. The suspect and victim were dating one another when this incident occurred.
