Incident at 2020 Bentworth

May 21, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating the drowning of a child at 2020 Bentworth about 7:30 p.m. on Friday (May 20).

The identity of victim, 12, who lives in the apartment complex at 2020 Bentworth, was not released.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. D. Newcomb and Officer T. Huynh reported:

The victim, her brother and another friend jumped the locked gate surrounding the apartment complex's swimming pool and began wading in the pool. The girl waded in the three-foot deep section and proceeded toward the five-foot deep section of the pool where she suddenly disappeared into the murky water.

Several citizens pulled the child from the pool and began CPR until paramedics arrived. She was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she is currently listed in critical condition.

Investigation to continue.
