Traffic Incident at 13000 Galveston Road

September 18, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal accident at 13000 Galveston Road on September 17, 2005 about 9:30 p.m.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant D.S. Runyan and Officer R. Stafford reported:

A Piper Malibu, a high-performance single-engine aircraft, was headed southwest from Ellington field at low altitude. The engine quit working and it appears the pilot turned back to the airport. The plane crashed in a near vertical manner, just south of the airport property. A large fireball was observed when the plane struck the ground. The two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
