Incident at 500 Gazin

September 26, 2005 -- A 54-year-old man was wounded when he was shot in an apparent drive-by shooting that occurred in the 500 block of Gazin on Sunday, September 25, 2005 around 10:35 p.m.

Houston Police Department Homicide Division Sergeants C.W. Howard, M.W. McStravick and Officer P.T. Yochum reported that Raul Ortiz was standing in front of his neighbor's house at 532 Gazin when a white or gray four door Buick drove up.

Witnesses told investigators that there were four men, described only as Hispanic males, in the car as it drove by. One of those males leaned out of the window and shot Ortiz with an assault-type rifle. While fleeing the scene, the Buick struck a parked truck. The occupant continued shooting at Ortiz as they drove northbound on Gazin.

Mr. Ortiz was transported and treated at Ben Taub General Hospital. He suffered non-fatal injuries.

The car used in the shooting is believed to have extensive front-end damage. Anyone with information about this incident or the whereabouts of the car should call the Houston Police Department at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
