Update on Incident at 1200 Bay Area Boulevard

September 28, 2005 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 1200 Bay Area Boulevard about 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Sept. 27).

The suspect, identified as Michael Anthony Torres (H/m, DOB 9-18-84), is charged with murder in the 209th State District Court.

The victim has been identified as Phillip Oscar Ovalle, 21, of 2200 Hollywood in Galveston. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants L.A. Flores, B.J. Harris and M.W. McStravick and Officers P.T. Yochum, R. Chappell and T. J. McCorvey reported:

A witness flagged down Houston police officers regarding a shooting that occurred at 1200 Bay Area inside of a maroon Nissan Altima. According to witnesses inside the vehicle, Michael Anthony Torres, who was a passenger in the rear seat of the vehicle, for reasons unknown, placed a handgun to the back of the head of Phillip Ovalle and pulled the trigger. HFD paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Ovalle dead. During the initial investigation, officers determined that Torres and Ovalle were both on active duty in the military.
