Update on Incident at 9500 Fannin

April 7, 2006 -- Houston police have arrested and charged a 36-year-old man in the fatal shooting that occurred in the 9500 block of Fannin about 12:15 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2006.

Gilbert Garza (H/m DOB 4-13-69) was taken into custody on March 30,2006 around 3:50 p.m. and has been charged with murder in the 178th State District Court.

Details of the offense are as follows.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick and Officer I.F. Flores Jr. reported:

Patrol officers were called to the scene of a man down and found the male victim lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his head. Investigators arrived and determined the victim had been shot, beaten and run over by an unknown vehicle. They also noticed the victim had defensive wounds to his hands. The unidentified male victim appears to be 25 to 30 years old. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
