Incident at 5828 West 34th Street

August 28, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 5828 West 34th Street about 7:05 p.m. on Thursday (August 24).

The suspect, Ignacio Fernandez (H/m, DOB 4/27/82), is charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Jose Godinez, 31, of 9330 Longpoint #116.

HPD Homicide Division Officers T. Hufstedler and I.F. Flores Jr. reported:

According to witnesses, Godinez and his friends were drinking beer after work in the parking lot of their employer. Fernandez, one of the co-workers, got into a verbal confrontation with the victim and left the scene. Fernandez later returned with a friend and approached Godinez with a gun in his hand. Godinez grabbed Fernandez's arm, which held the gun, and both men fell into Fernandez's vehicle. Shortly thereafter, shots were fired and Godinez sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital by private vehicle. Fernandez fled in a 2000 or 2001 black Honda Accord.
