Incident at 6835 Griggs Road

January 2, 2006 -- The Houston Police Department, Homicide Division, is investigating a murder that occurred on January 2, 2006 at approximately 1:00 a.m. at 6835 Griggs Road.

Homicide Division investigators P. J. Guerrero and X. E. Avila reported:

The complainant, Mr. Reynaldo Valdez Santibanez (H/M, 45 years of age, 7902 Ave B, Houston, Texas) and the suspect, an unknown Hispanic male, were drinking in different areas of the Centro Botanero La Iguana bar. The suspect approached Mr. Santibanez and Mr. Santibanez' nephew and an argument ensued. The suspect produced a chrome .380 caliber pistol and fired at least four times, striking Mr. Santibanez three times. Mr. Santibanez died at the scene.

The suspect fled on foot, across Griggs, where witnesses report that he jumped a backyard fence. The unidentified suspect remains at large.
