Traffic Incident at 5900 East Sam Houston Parkway

January 14, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 5900 East Sam Houston Parkway South about 1 a.m. today (Jan. 14).

The identity of the deceased victim, a 22 year-old male, is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant H.M. Runyan and Officer T.D. Houston reported:

The driver of a Ford F-150 truck was traveling westbound on the Sam Houston Parkway service road at a high rate of speed. He lost control of his vehicle and collided with a wooden light pole. The force of the collision broke the pole in half and caused extensive damage to the victim's vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It appears no other vehicles were involved.

The investigation is continuing.
