Incident at 7007 Bellaire Boulevard

July 7, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating the apparent accidental death of a child at 7007 Bellaire Boulevard at about 12:15 p.m. on Thursday (July 6).

The victim has been identified as Diego Jose Martinez, 2, of 7007 Bellaire Blvd. The cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

HPD Homicide Division Officers C.L. Scales and R.P. Martinez reported:

While playing in the kitchen area of his home, Diego Martinez apparently knocked over a large television set that was sitting on the top of two large speakers. He was pinned beneath the television for several minutes. Diego sustained severe head injuries and was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he later died. The child's death is being investigated as an accident.
