Update on Incident at 2300 West Sam Houston Parkway North

July 10, 2006 -- Houston Police Department Homicide Division investigators have arrested and filed capital murder charges against 19-year-old Leon Russell Dawson (bm/ DOB 4-28-87) in the 185th State District Court.

Last week HPD released a surveillance photo of Dawson in the fatal shooting of Anand Sharma, 46, of 10350 Lands End #1905 at 2303 West Sam Houston Parkway North about 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday (July 5).

Details of the incident are as follows:

The victim was a nightshift employee at a convenience store. During the victim's shift, a suspect walked into the store and waited for the other customers to leave. Once the store was empty, the suspect pulled out a pistol and demanded money. The victim complied with the request, however when the suspect diverted his attention, the victim attempted to stop the suspect. A struggle ensued and the victim was shot in the head. The suspect left the store and fled northbound through the parking lot.
