Traffic Incident at 7200 Southwest Freeway

June 23, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 7200 block of the Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 South) service road about 5:45 a.m. today (June 23).

The driver, Phong T Ngo, 21, died at the scene.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant L.A. Washington and Officers A. Taylor and D. Harwell reported:

Witnesses reported seeing a black 2002 Acura driving at a high rate of speed on the southbound service road of the 7200 block of the Southwest Freeway. The vehicle lost control and hit the concrete retaining wall under the U-turn lane near Bellaire Boulevard. The vehicle burst into flames upon impact, and was extinguished by responding HFD personnel.

The investigation is continuing.
