Traffic Incident on Irvington at Caplin

March 6, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident on Irvington at Caplin about 2 p.m. on Sunday (Mar. 5).

The male victim, Gary Callaway, 47, was pronounced dead at LBJ Hospital.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant N. Nguyen and Officer R. Breiding reported:

The victim was operating a blue Honda motorcycle and traveling north on Irvington. The driver of a blue Econoline van was traveling west on Caplin. When the van left the stop sign at the intersection, the motorcycle struck the van's left rear tire. According to witnesses, the motorcyclist approached the intersection at a high rate of speed.
