Update on Incident at 1303 La Concha

March 16, 2006 -- A suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 1303 La Concha about 10 p.m. on December 28, 2005 was arrested earlier this week by SWAT officers in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The suspect, Jerome Hampton (b/m, DOB 3-12-82), was taken into custody on Sunday, March 12, after firing shots at New Orleans police officers trying to apprehend him. New Orleans police said Hampton has been charged in a murder that happened during Mardi Gras a few weeks ago.

Houston police homicide investigators assigned to the Gang Murder Squad had been searching for Hampton since he was charged with the December 28 murder of Steven Kennedy, 24, at 1303 La Concha in Houston. That murder charge is filed in the 209th State District Court. Investigators said both Hampton and Kennedy were members of separate gangs in New Orleans before relocating to Houston following Hurricane Katrina. The motive in the shooting is believed to be revenge.

Hampton was one of five gang members identified, charged and being sought by homicide investigators in Houston and New Orleans. HPD investigators made that announcement in a news conference on February 16. The other four wanted suspects were featured in an HPD news release that same day (February 16).
