Incident at 12200 Fleming #909

March 25, 2006 -- Charges of manslaughter are pending against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 12200 Fleming #909 about 11 p.m. on Friday (Mar. 24).

The victim has been identified as Joseph Raney, 26, of 9113 Sandra. He suffered a gunshot would to the neck and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he later died.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. W. McStravick and Officer B.D. Evans reported:

HPD officers responded to a shooting call and were met by the suspect who stated that he had accidentally shot his long-time friend. Investigators determined the two were examining a firearm inside the residence when the suspect discharged the weapon striking Raney in the neck.
