Incident at 5720 Glenmont

May 18, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect who held Houston police SWAT officers at bay for five hours after fatally shooting a man at 5720 Glenmont #60 shortly after midnight on Monday (May 15).

The suspect, Jose Garcia Lopez (H/m, DOB 4/28/78), is charged with murder in the 232nd State District Court.

The victim is identified as Macedonio Rostro, 30, of 5710 Glenmont #124. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Carrillo and Officer H.A. Chavez reported:

Mr. Rostro went to Lopez's apartment and knocked on the door. Lopez, who was inside, fired one shot through the closed door and struck Rostro in the chest. HPD SWAT officers were called to the scene after Lopez refused to come out of the apartment in which three other persons were inside. After hours of negotiations, the three persons and Lopez began exiting the apartment and Lopez was taken into custody without further incident about 5 a.m. Jose Lopez has confessed to the shooting of Rostro. No one else was injured.
