Incident at 11971 Sandpiper

November 2, 2006 -- Houston police are investigating an apparent murder/suicide at 11971 Sandpiper about 1:30 a.m. today (November 2).

The victim, Sheila A. Davis, 43, of 11917 Sandpiper, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene.

The suspect, Joe Edward Wright, 44, also suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Evans and Officer T.R. Cunningham reported:

HPD officers responded to a shooting call at 11917 Sandpiper and were met by the victim's parents, who drove in from Rosharon, Texas, after receiving a phone call from the suspect. Officers were advised that the victim and suspect were found shot in an upstairs bedroom.

Davis' parents said they received a call from the suspect, who told them they needed to come to the residence, pick up the couple's daughter and take care of her. The parents could tell by his voice that something was wrong, and when they questioned him regarding their daughter, Ms. Davis, he did not respond.
