Update on Incident at 8100 Filltop

November 17, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 8100 Filltop on November 14, 2006 at 6:25 p.m.

The suspect, Antoine Damore Thurston (b/m, 5/15/87) is charged with murder in the 209th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Ervin Powell, 17, of 8138 Filltop. Powell sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.D. Newcomb and Officer A. Mares reported:

Powell was walking with his brother when a large older model black 4-door vehicle with tinted windows passed them. The vehicle, which was occupied by two black males, made a U-turn and backed into a side street. The occupants of the vehicle called Powell over and while talking to him, fired three shots, striking Powell. The vehicle left southbound on Filltop.
