October 18, 2006 -- Houston police are seeking the identity of a suspect who exchanged gunfire with two HPD officers following a robbery at a restaurant at 8515 Jensen about 8 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 17).

HPD Officer J.R. Mixon, sworn in as an officer in August of 1999 and assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division, discharged his weapon several times. Officer T.R. Jackson, sworn in as an officer in July of 2005 and assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division, discharged her weapon once.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.K. Peters and Officer A.J. Palos reported:

Officer Jackson was assisting another officer with an accident investigation on Jensen when a citizen approached and advised of a robbery in-progress at the Popeye's Restaurant down the street. Officers Jackson and Mixon responded to the scene and observed an armed unknown black male suspect inside the restaurant. As officers moved in closer to investigate, the suspect came out of the rear of the restaurant holding a dark colored revolver. Officer Mixon ordered the suspect to drop his weapon and the suspect refused. Officers once again ordered the suspect to drop his weapon to which the suspect stated, "No, you are going to be shot." When the suspect raised his weapon and pointed it at officers, Officer Mixon fired at the suspect. Officer Jackson fired once, but ceased firing once she realized officers were across from one another.

The suspect approached a vehicle in the parking lot and forced the owner from his vehicle at gunpoint. He then sped off with Officer Jackson in pursuit. Several blocks away, the suspect lost control of the vehicle and fled on foot. After an extensive search, the suspect evaded arrest and is still at-large.

The suspect is described only as a black male, approximately 18 years old. He is approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds.
