Incident at 9002 Sterlingshire #904

October 28, 2006 -- Houston police are awaiting autopsy results on a baby girl found unresponsive at 9002 Sterlingshire #904 about 5:55 a.m. today (Oct. 28).

The baby, Maryain Polk, three months old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.W. Belk and Officer M.J. Miller reported:

The baby was placed in her parents' bed about 11:30 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 27) and they slept next to her. The mother woke up in the early morning hours and found the baby face down in a pillow and cold to the touch. Houston Fire Department paramedics were called and pronounced the baby dead.

There were neither signs of obvious abuse or trauma to the baby nor signs of neglect in the apartment.

The investigation is continuing, pending results of the autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.
